    July 18-19, 2020 Elsinore event

We've pushed back registration to 7/3/20 for now. We need two things to happen, and we are on stand-by to run the event even with late notice. The COVID test site needs to close, and in order for the City to let us run under our permit, they're waiting for a Stage 3 state opening determination for all events at the stadium, not just ours. That was looking possible a week or two ago, but recent news from CA is not helping at the moment. We'll keep you posted.

Updates and more info on FB page and events.

SDR region has both a website, and a forum. Can we please post the information publicly where all members can access, rather than on FB, where one must have a FB account.

SDR has changed a lot of rules in the last year... maybe FB membership in addition to SCCA membership is now a requirement as well???

As I type this... the above post, is the only hint there is not just a July event... but any event, anytime, anywhere, in the SDR region. The only "upcoming event" on the SDR site is a Sep 30th 2019 post renew your 2020 Solo card. The Calendar link isn't there anymore.

Change is inevitable and will never make everyone happy, but the overall membership is the focus. This message board has extremely limited usage to monitor and maintain, but the volunteers that do, are doing just that with commensurate emphasis. The website has an upcoming events banner on the top of the page with all upcoming events. Always has been listed on the website and still is. The fact is, other than a tentative event in July, and it's all but guaranteed now that it's not happening, we have no other scheduled events to post as our autocross sites are not scheduling events. SDCCU is in ownership change as well as being occupied by COVID related facilities. Similarly, Elsinore is a COVID test site, and the City will not issue permits until CA state enters Stage 3 reopening. So, the website is in fact up to date on events as well as the FB page, and even here.

FB accounts are also as free as this message board account. Understand it may be a preference to not want to use it, but it is not a non public member access limitation to information any more than this message board.

Thank you for making the information consistent across the 3 different platforms.

I am just going to coast here for any future updates.

Post, or not, in the Forum... what ever. But, PLEASE post on the regions web site.

Yes there is an "upcoming events" tab... but there is no mention of the event there. You commented here (forum)... to look at FB. The official region website should be the go-to, not FB.

Personally won't use Facebook, despicable privacy policies.

Because the event has not gone live on MSR, because it is only tentative, it doesn't show on the website, but if (had most likely) it goes live, it will then be automatically linked since it is interfaced to the SDRSCCA MSR page.

I agree with Craig, def. not a fan of FB it's policies & practices. Much prefer a single purpose scca centric site over FB. 2 cents.

On a happier note some F1 to record this weekend. Red Bull Ring. P1 tomorrow, set your recorder or catch it on the inet.

Sorry folks, the COVID test site is staying with the recent growth in cases and the City is currently not issuing permits prior to the state entering Phase 3 reopening.

Correct. We are unable currently to schedule with either SDCCU or Elsinore. We have to wait and see if SDSU, after the ownership transition in the next month, decides to make the stadium available and what that process might be. For Elsinore, the City will not permit events without CA in Stage 3 reopening, whenever that may be. So, we have no near term expectation of autocross, but remain in active contact. We are also again looking for sites that may now be available with things otherwise shut down.

We intend to soon announce dates for a road rally Social TSD event, and a track day. We've been working on those programs since pre COVID, in anticipation of SDCCU going away.

Can I enter a z06 in road rally?

    Different from rallycross?

Can 2 guys be in a road rally entry? Driver/navigator?
Link to a general description of such?
    What track for track event?
    So many questions.

    Froggy

Maybe it would be a good idea if SD SCCA "insiders" (not me) would expand some more on any/all alternatives to autox. My spidy sense is that autox is slipping down the slope to extinction. I am a positive type guy but I do read the handwriting on the wall on occasion. Unless the idiot governor shuts down the roads we maybe need to run events on public roads or dedicated tracks. My vettes are collecting dust. Then some time in the near future (unless lib/soc/prog ban outdoor activity - except riot/loot) we resurrect autox.

I hope I am wrong about big lot autox, but the longer it goes without one the lower the turnout is going to be if/when one is held.

Yes, Z06 is fine, as well as a Honda Odyssey. We've updated and added a road rally section to the website, we're about to post an event on the website. Tons of information on what it is and how it works at the SCCA website as well. Track will be Chuckwalla, we are also adding content to the website for track events, and again a ton of info on track days at the SCCA website. We will also be announcing an event soon. What we need is some patience here, nothing is being obfuscated by or for the "insiders." By "insiders" I take that to mean the region members like all others, except that they are stepping up and voluntarily and willingly providing their time and effort to make SDR SCCA a reality for themselves and everyone else.

Autocross is not slipping to extinction, but SDCCU is, and I can't imagine there is a single person in the region that doesn't inherently know that, or they're not paying any attention for the last 10 years. We have Elsinore, but we have limitations that are not in our control. It's incredibly frustrating to all of us trying to make events happen, especially when we can look around at other CA regions that don't have these same limitations imposed in their local regions and sites. We are where we are though. The reality is we have a very different set of circumstances that are preventing us from running now, that have nothing to do with anything in our control. If the sites were open, we would be running. Despite that, and against all odds, we have been trying to convince the sites, and the cities, and the health departments, and the state, to provide avenues for us to run, we haven't just given up no matter what anyone may or may not think. Currently, we're out trying to be opportunistic to see if we can get on sites that normally weren't available but now may be with COVID, trying to work it to our benefit. That is vastly more difficult than "book the next six months with the stadium."

What has happened, and the Solo Committee and the Region have been working on for the last two years, is that things are not the same as they were for the last decade or more and never will be again. Business as usual where everyone thought they were "insiders" because 15 events a year at the stadium were essentially a guarantee, with the exact same processes to book dates and run events without change is no more. So the "insiders" are the ones trying to reinvent the region so we all still have fun things to do with our cars. Many of them are also the "old guard" along with some great new people in the region. We got a new autocross site, as best we could (even had two but already lost one again without anything we controlled), and yes it's different, but it's good and a place to continue. Hopefully we've learned not to just rely on that for perpetuity as we did the stadium, which is how we also got where we are.

We are introducing road rally and track days, hoping to grow the track activities to more, all not knowing what anyone's interest may be but it's either evolve and get better or fade away. There is plenty of SCCA precedent and expertise for these events, but not in San Diego with any recent history. Even that history if still around is dated because the world has changed and everything about those events and how they run is now new. So, we're building from ground zero, and we're getting there. Maybe not fast enough, or not well enough for those that want to be given a schedule having come to expect "the same as always."

Hi, Don't mean insiders in a negative way, sorry if it came across such. I just mean if you don't attend every meeting you know zilch except random postings (maybe it's all on FB that I hate using)? I have a few good, serious autox friends who ask me what I know so just probing.

We would do a rally, yes, just don't make the start finish point some track 5 hours from here.

As for track, why not Fontana, it's open/running and a heck of a lot closer than Buttonwillow? For me about 4 hrs to BW and 2 to Fontana. Is it the price? It is a really fun fast track, Just the inside road course or (are you up for over 120 mph) roval. Have done both a few times. Not sure if NASCAR will even be booking dates there in Kalifornia.

    Thanks.

Found rally on SD scca site, not on the national site (just 6 calclub road rallys) so I guess Calclub has these going on for some time. Checking with rally buddy. Does this work with a navigator? Or just driver? Or either?

SCCA Road Rally program info here:
    https://www.scca.com/pages/road-rally

    Advance registration for event:
    https://sdrscca.motorsportreg.com/

Chuckwalla, not Buttonwillow. ACS and BW are Cal Club region tracks, in fact they own BW. Chuckwalla is also a Cal Club region track believe it or not, but we have approval to use it from CC. It's between us and Pheonix, where we held a few road races before. Actually a very safe and fun SCCA approved track, and one we have access to. We wish SD still had a local track, but those are long gone. We've added a track events page to website, sent deposit for a date, event will be announced soon. Not completely there yet, a lot going on for a very few people doing this outside their real day jobs.

Ok so DB and I are registered for 9/26 and have no clue what it's all about (at least me). How to prepare study practice for this? Usually I use google to get from a to b.

Yes, more to come and we'll have some pre event virtual meetings. We did a very small beta test event with three teams. It's easy, and it was actually a lot of fun. Fun to do something different not knowing exactly what we were doing anyway. Basically, you'll get a written list of directions a few minutes before you start, streets and turns and distance and time listed. There are time checkpoints along the way, all assuming street legal speeds. You get a score in seconds at each point along the way, whether you arrive early or late, the goal is to hit the time. All of it is tracked for you on an app for your phone. Your codriver as navigator has to keep you on the course, and an idea of time between the two of you, driver managing speed and traffic, etc. Lowest total time differences wins.

    Glad you're coming out!
